My angle was with regards to the grip "fitting" into the "hook of hamate" under the heel pad. I feel that the grip is more secure when it fits into that little slot. That tends to happen when I am gripping down a bit. My grips are standard. Interestingly, a thicker grip feels better in the right hand. It is difficult (for me at least) to duplicate the feel I get gripping the dowel in the palm of my right hand...the left thumb ain't a dowel ya know. Perhaps a reverse tapered grip will do!
