I was just kidding about the reverse taper idea! Check out Bustergrips.com.
I was swinging a baseball bat the other day...just goofing around. As with almost everything I put in my hands I always set my flying wedges! I noticed that my hands fit quite nicely on the grip of the bat...thinner to thicker. I am an atypical lemming so it got me to thinking.
As Annikan says the grip is an evolutionary process! I recall listening to Jack Nicklaus saying to grip the right hand in the fingers...to "add some snap" to it I believe he said. Like Yoda says if you are gripping the club in the fingers of the right hand "...you don't have it." Thinner up top...thicker down below makes sense. You can't have everything!
Pity, that I regripped my clubs recently! I am going to give the reverse taper grips a whirl. The buster grips were originally for a guy with arthritis. They come in pink as well. Good for hitters perhaps, Daryl?
When I had my new clubs built ,my clubfitter measured my hands{wrist to mid& mid finger length}.I have long fingers and long hands. He built me a great set of clubs-but the thing I noticed most were the grips.
If you buy a new set of grips they need cleaning-they probably still have the release compound from the moulds on them.
My grips were more tacky than any other grip I have ever felt-I asked my man why the grips were so good ;-
"They are NEW and CLEAN" was the reply. My advice is to read Tom Wishons book--it gives advice on cleaning grips which could transform your game!

I've heard of people playing with them. Really. I don't know if their out of the Loony Bin yet or had their Clubs Re-gripped since then. Don’t do it. It sounds like a crazy idea. Keep your Grips. Extensor Action. But I am considering adding a piece of tape to thicken them a smudge.
I will try to get a grip! Too late...I have ONE on the way! I'm going to put it on a "spare" for Justin. Just in case it works! I believe that Ralph Maltby varies the thickness of his own grips, but not uniformly i.e. he adds a bit for where the right hand meets the grip. Ultimately, I agree that with good alignments and extensor action you ought to be able to pure most anything. I guess I am still harping on the idea that given the importance of gripping under the heel pad with the left hand it should not be the thickest part of the grip...unless you have bangers for fingers (ask Neil) I will sacrifice an old Titleist 962 B 7 iron to find out! Then...the revolution will begin.
