I have the same confusion. 7 edition 12-1-0 and 12-1-1 on basic pattern recommends using rotated shoulder turn (was standard on edition 6) and slide hip turn. But then rotated shoulder turn said use shiftless hip turn, does this in contradition to slide hip turn?

Beware the 7th edition's Rotated Shoulder Turn for Pivot Strokes with Weight Shift (Hip Shift). The two are incompatible components. The Rotated Shoulder Turn uses the Shiftless Hip Turn (zero Axis Tilt) and is normally confined to Short Strokes, i.e., Chipping and Putting.

Also beware the Slide Hip Turn, especially as illustrated in its accompanying photos (10-14-B #1 and #2). Also, as it is succinctly described in the Chapter 11 Summary: 'Free' Slide with 'Zero' Turn.
