Back weighting would have the opposite effect of what you are trying to accomplish. Back weighting, adding weight to the grip end of the shaft, decreases swing weight. When a putter is shortened, the swing weight goes down. Weight needs to be added to the head to get the swing weight back up. It can pretty easily be done by putting weight down the shaft, but most (including me) believe that changes the location of the sweet spot. It can also be accomplished with lead tape on the head, but depending on how much the putter is shortened, it could take a butt-load of tape!
