In order to prevent injury and promote stability. If one muscle group becomes stronger than the opposing muscle group, it puts the body out of balance, and can negatively affect all related muscle groups and joints. Besides that, in the video, they were training both sides, not hitting balls from both sides (even though Vijay is known to do that fairly well). In any training program of any type, you really want to train opposing muscle groups, or you may be asking for trouble.
