You may feel as though the arms are a little farther from the body, simply because everyone has been told to "let their hands hang." The right hand should be vertical to the ground with the left thumb on the aft side of the shaft. The left thumb then fits in the palm of the right hand or in the #1 pressure point.
The right forearm is in line with the shaft as described in 7-3.
