I'm sure that many of you remember this story - i never saw it on TV but heard that Tiger did it:-
Did he stop it at this stage because he had not released accumulator 4 yet...ie, he was still turning the flywheel...the rocket had not released its second stage... Now ask why he did not stop the following swing...
In this display of downswing control he does not stop the downswing but re-routes around the ball on the downswing due to bird shadow distracting him:
In this version of the same event you get a slow mo version ( be patient of the guys video skills - it is better towards the end and it is worth it to see the bird appearance timing relative to swing) In slomo you can see the bird appear just before acc 4 release but by the time Tigers brain can do anything about it his power package is in orbit and acc. 4 is released... :-
So is downswing stopping control all about being conscious of your accumulator 4 release point... you can stop your swing before you release acc. 4.... but once it is released you have to keep going but you can re-route if you have educated hands?
Any comments?

Maybe I should have put this one in the lab thread...
But what i am proposing is that one can stop the downswing with an intact power package as long as you initiate and complete your neural "stop signal" before the left arm blasts off the chest (acc. 4 releases)...
But you can not stop the left arm's power package release (acc. 2 and 3 ) once the left arm has been blasted off the chest...all you can do is divert the tip of the rocket to avoid the ball if your hands are educated.
I guess I am trying to use my (?flawed) understanding of pivot and power package release using these Tiger episodes (which are supposedly unexplainable and only possible if you are Tiger)...
Homer Kelley having dinner with Tiger... what a converstaion they might have had!
Cochran and Stobbs (Search for the Perfect Swing) had golfers try to stop their golf swing once a light was turned off I believe, and no one could do it when the light went off in the downswing. Keep in mind, these were golfers and not machines like Tiger. Anyways, it isn't the perfect study as it takes times to process that the light went off. So admittedly this may have only a little relevance to the conversation.

The reason you can't sustain the lag is because you are so eager to make the club move fast (a reaction to the intent of "hitting it far"). So on a full shot you throw it away too early, which doesn't happen for your short chip. (bts)

No i think that you have a point, but Tiger is human...just very aware of his neurones and biofeedback...
I think that one of the reasons why golfers find it impossible to stop their swings is because they release their accumulators too soon and incorrectly sequenced...

Very interesting hypothesis!

yes, i reckon that they (I) launch the second stage rocket without ever really allowing the first stage rocket to do anything...and then they(I) wonder why we can't stop the third stage rocket during the downswing...
maybe...
tiger stops the first stage rocket before the second stage has ignited...
oh my!...just checked PGA tour website...the guy just won again!!
