How many use chipping strokes that are different from the Basic Motion?

Just outside the green I prefer a chip with an 8/9 iron and a putting technique.

But it is also possible to use a flat left wrist vertical chopping/tapping motion (on plane from the side?) cocking up and down without much arm swing and hardly any followthru to get backspin and control the roll. PW 1 to 1 carry and roll, 8 iron: 1 carry, 2 roll. SW: 2 carry, 1 roll.

Or is the Basic Motion the prefered way to do it?
