World Golf Championships -- HSBC Champions / PGA TOUR / November 5-8, 2009
The last of this years World Golf Championships events got underway yesterday at Sheshan International GC in Shanghai, China. With a purse of $7,000,000, no cut and a limited field of 78 players representing 23 countries, this stellar event focuses international attention not only on the great players of the world, but also on the emerging prominence of China on golf's world stage. Qualifiers come to the tournament from the Asian Tour, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR of Australasia and the Sunshine Tour, and also, elite Chinese players qualifying through the China Golf Association.
Only five players in the field were multiple winners this year on the PGA TOUR. Among these few is Brian Gay, who opened with 69 (-3) and is currently T-13.

Yoda, can you please have a word with BG about his spitting.
This is a distatsteful habbit at the best of times but with swine flu a serious health risk it makes it even more disgusting.
I have noticed Tiger seems to be spitting less, but on tv yesterday BG seemed to be spitting almost continuously. Is he chewing tobacco or something?

He gets little bits and pieces opponents that he's chewed up stuck between his teeth. Has to spend all day working 'em loose and spitting 'em out. Sorry!
Yoda,
Moe Norman once said Tiger was not the best golfer, but he certainly was the best scorer. As I watched Tiger in China I wondered how the Chinese audience viewed his petulant behavior on the golf course.
If one of my high school players behaved like that I would stand on his bag until he apologized to his fellow competitors and assessed himself the requisite penalty strokes.
Also, I wonder how Nike manages to sell a driver if the #1 player in the world cannot hit the fairway with one.
