I had always been under the impression that the wrists were supposed to be flexible and the fingers firm. Correct me if I am wrong, but the wrists should only be flexible at startup, and then the right wrist stiffens after it bends back? Not sure I completely understand what is meant by a frozen left wrist since the left wrist is constantly uncocking from the release onwards.

For those who use the Adjusted Address position of the Wrists (Bent Left / Flat Right / 10-9-A), the Frozen Right Wrist condition is established in Start Up and then maintained until the end of the Follow-Through (Both Arms Straight Position / 8-11).
The term 'Locked' Left Wrist is from Homer's revisions intended for the as yet unpublished 7th Edition. In 4-D-1, page 59, paragraph 2, add:
"So learn to LOCK the Left Wrist in the Flat Position at any time or at all times. However, there are times when you do not want a Flat Left Wrist, so also study 2-K, 3-F-6, 6-B-3, 6-C-2-A, 7-2, and 7-18 to become a skilled Hand Manipulator."
So, the term 'Locked' Left Wrist means it is 'Locked' in its Flat condition,i.e., it cannot be Bent or Arched. These are the Horizontal conditions of the Wrist. And by 'Locking' the Left Wrist in its Flat condition, you have precluded the other two Horizontal conditions and have thereby eliminated all Horizontal Motion. This restriction -- particularly the no Bending of the Left Wrist -- complies with 1-L #8 -- "No portion of the Lever Assembly can swing forward independently." However, you remain free to execute Perpendicular Motions (Cocking and Uncocking) as well as RotationalMotions (Turning and Rolling).
