There are many variable costs, e.g., general administration and facilities fees, but a prime cost is usually the player himself. Many PGA TOUR players have 'big bucks' sponsorship agreements that require them to participate in a minimum number of corporate engagements per year. Depending on the marquis value of 'the name,' that cost can range from nominal to outrageous.
In another era, Dave Stockton was the undisputed 'King of the Corporate Outings.' He filled most Mondays and Tuesdays and used the Wednesday Pro-Ams to 'press the flesh' and build the relationships necessary for the Monday/Tuesday gigs. How much did he make doing this? In his own words:
