The most important thing in grips, is make sure you have a sense of stability and awareness of the #3 pressure point; the bottom pad of your right index finger, and the #2 pressure point(s); the last three fingers of your left hand, so there is no wobble in those areas. Wobble will manifest itself in the form of calluses in areas not associated with the above.

I just purchased another set of grips today because the current set didn't fit. I don't like to wear gloves. I feel that if your alignments are right, lag pressure is controlled, the swing has no wobble, and the grip fits there is no need for gloves. JMHO
