A new shot for me...

Messing around the greens today, I took a square stance and opened up the blade on my 56 SW........then just made very short backstroke with a punch through impact and a very short follow through. The ball flew very high and stopped on a dime. It was like a flop shot but without the big swing. I found I could vary the distance by just adding more or less lag pressure. I would say it was very close to the Basic Motion stroke in terms of length.

Pretty cool.

You'll soon find even more uses for a shot like that....try this one and tell me how you like it:

-line up square instead of open
-put the ball back more in your stance
-start from a hitters address with impact hands
-hit the BACK of the ball (not the inside backcorner)
-use vertical hinging
-use a right arm hitting motion

try it out and come back and tell me about:

the spin
the trajectory
the look on your face when you did it right

---------------

bonus for whoever can name the actual "name" this shot was given back in the 70s.

Ahh my favourite play time shot - point the clubface at the target and aim everything left dependent on that - stance and plane line and hit down hard - the more open the higher it goes.....full backstoke to half and bring to a half to both arms straight with an angled hinge......

Yoda has made mention that Homer didn't like Vertical hinging for the big flop shot. Your use of the angled hinging punch may be how Homer prefered to hit them high and soft.

Machining - got to love it.
