Now, i take it he was hitting from standard address and not impact address?

Standard Address Versus Impact Address
 

Thanks, JohnThomas. That was a fun day -- cold, but fun! -- and I really enjoyed doing that wrap-up video for my student and friend, Trigolt.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I believe I used Standard Address (Bent Left and Flat Right Wrists) for all shots (both Hitting and Swinging). This is my normal procedure, but it certainly is not mandatory. Many players, especially Hitters, prefer the Impact Address (Flat Left and Bent Right Wrists) with its advantages and disadvantages.

Regardless of the Address chosen, Hitters should set up a "Carry Back" motion and Swingers a "Swing Back" motion (7-9).

Mainly two, Thom:

First, the Clubhead is leading the Hands into the Backstroke. Hence, Clubhead Lag and Drag (6-C-0) -- the fundamental principal of the Golf Stroke -- is minimized in Start Up. Somewhere in the Stroke (no later than Start Down), this condition must be reversed so that the Hands can lead the Club into Impact.

Second, the Right Forearm points well ahead of the Ball at Address. This makes On Plane Right Forearm Tracing more difficult in Start Up.

I see...

I use right forearm tracing in my practice swings only, to get the feel of the angel of the plane and the angel of attack. Tracing from in front of the ball, back through the ball in the back swing always felt odd.
When actually hitting the ball I'll carry the club back, up, and in, using the uptained feeling from the practice swing of the angel of attack, and lagging the clubhead with the "lawnmover move" and the pressure points on the two rigth hand middle fingers. Then from the top I'll just "shift" the pressure to the aft side pp#1 and #3 and use the inside of the ball as the aiming point.

I have a suspision that, even though I start from Impact address, my left wrist is a little bit less straight at address than it is at impact, where my hands are a bit more forward (not much though). Perhaps Ted or other impact address guys can say if they do the same.
