Eddie Merrins on the Forearms

- From Golf Digest January 2007 -

Every great golfer I've known has had powerful forearms. You can't play the game at the highest level without them. Tiger has terrific forearms. Nicklaus' were tremendous. The best I saw belonged to Doug Sanders. He was just a medium-length hitter, but his backswing was extremely short, and it was incredible how much speed he generated with his forearms--the right forearm in particular. When he flexed that thing, it was like touching granite. The good news is, you can develop them. Squeezing and relaxing the steering wheel while you drive will help. So will squeezing a rubber ball while you watch TV. Strong forearms can take you a long way in this game.

I don't doubt it contributes.

Sean Fister says the same thing.

...

What about triceps BTW? They are the main pushing muscles in the arm no?

Take a look at Greg Norman. Even today his forearms look as big as his legs.

Been doing strengthening stuffs prescribed by Comdpa. Not yet doing the speed stuffs.

My wife thought I am crazy .. But anyway she commented " wow .. all your veins pop out " .. ^_^

But anyway, after 10 days, I noticed I am more stable at impact. I cannot say I really hit further yet. But I am definitely more accurate. and able to hold my flying wedges in place much better and easier.

Havent really start the Speed stuffs yet but , these training are really good stuffs.

I don't think Homer Kelley would agree that it is important to have massive forearms . . . even if you are a Hitter. He said he was a Hitting Devote . . . Look at him! He sort of looked like Mr. Magoo and Mr. Rogers had a baby . . . not a very intimdating physical presence exactly.

Stong Alignments and a Strong Computer he had . . . doubt he was much of an arm wrassler though.

I agree with Bucket swinging takes no physical effort all you have to do is stay ahead of the club.

Right . . . BUT remember Homer was a HITTER . . . you can be a WUSS and Hit. I'm proof positive of that . . . I'm the biggest wuss on the planet and I can Hit.

Homer says it just takes a POUND of Lag Pressure . . .

I'm no "_____ologist" but gripping muscles are in the forearms right? We grip the club just enough to hold on at a given speed.

Therefore, with increased grip strength one could propel the club faster and still hang on...
