One can use any HINGE they want to. He was probably striking a little partial swing shot here in the picture. That HINGE would send the ball in there a little softer, and higher.

One would not normally use a VERTICAL HINGE for their standard procedure. Horizontal(Dual-horizontal) or Angled Hinging would normally be used for standard full shots.

I heard Brandel Chamblee say he thought Mr. Senden had a very good swing, and thought it would hold up under pressure. It(he) did!!.
