Updated Search Feature
We've implemented several updates to the forum's search engine over the past couple months, and we just added one more - the ability to choose a "boolean" search. This new type of search works more like a traditional search engine where you can do searches like:
Flying AND Wedges ...returns only posts with the words flying and wedges in them... Flying Wedges ...or... Flying OR Wedges ...returns posts with the words flying or wedges in them... "Flying Wedges" ...returns posts with the exact phrase "Flying Wedges" in them. To use this new type of search, click on "Search"->Advanced Search, and you have two options in the lower left corner of the screen: "Natural Language Search" and "Boolean Search" The natural language search is the default and is similar to the "Ask Jeeves" style searching where best results should come from search strings like "How do I set my flying wedges?" If you prefer the Boolean Search and want it to be your default, select it then click the "Go" button at the bottom next to the "Save Search Preferences" drop down. |
some feedback
there seems to be some issues with this search function. a search on "drive loading" does not return posts with the exact phrase "drive loading" in them. also I have never been able to get a boolean search with AND to work - the results always come back with OR displayed for example: search on: drive AND loading returns Search: Key Word(s): drive OR loading in the search results page |
I'll keep looking for a better search solution. I've not been very satisfied with the search results we've been getting.

in the meantime is it possible the vendor may have a patch fix for some of the errors they seem such basic errors that I would think they would have fixed at least some of them |
I've been all over that topic on their site but will check again and use their tools to re-generate the search indexes. Give it another try later tonight.

I usually get good results when I select "Sort Results by Relevancy".
