10-2-B (Subtitle: "I Make A Stupid")
Well, just getting back to my begginner's level study of TGM after a nineteen month hiatus. A little rusty boys, so hang in there with me. Long story short, "the #3 PP and left thumb are now on the aft side of the clubshaft". And I'm sure my AI showed me this during one of our only two meetings, a few years back.
Problem is, as I've been slowly working my swing back-in-to-being in the comforts of my personal driving range (okay, living room) I just noticed I've been running my left thumb directly down the center of the clubshaft. Not the aft. And thus, in the immortal words of 1968 Master's loser Roberto DiVincenzo... So, how much on the aft side is the left thumb? I know questions like this are nearly impossible to answer in b/w terms, approximation? I have to say, with the thumb on the aft side of the clubshaft though, impact fix feels much less tense for some reason. It also feels like the the clubshaft is just perfectly matched to #3 pp and like I'm about to crush a 5i about 210. Or, hit a violent snipe/hook just over my own left foot. Cheers all, thanks for any assistance. |
welcome back HoganFan....
I've found that setting up the grip by putting the right hand on first, in it's impact fix position with right forearm on-plane, bend wrist, pp#1 and #3 in line and on-plane, makes fitting in the left thumb real easy. Just put it right under pp#1 (under the lifeline of the right hand). Works for me.
I'm hitting these days, so I never go to adjusted address, just takes it back from impact fix. |

Also it helped remind me to get the right thumb over and around the shaft as well, something for some reason I still continue to want and let it ride more to the top.. Argh those thumbs... Isn't that something that, the thumbs, that make use different from other animals? And this was a good thing? |
Great. I'm going to re-check this w/a club after I get home from work tonight, then post again on this.
Martee--I feel like I know you already, having followed your many posts with Lynn from the old TGM site. Much thanks for your persistence!. Thom, my thanks. |
Okay, guys--club in hand. Now, as I look down at my grip, my left thumb is ever so slightly right of center, comfortably against the lifeline of my right palm. Is this "aft" enough for the left thumb?

Think 'on plane', down plane, a tilted plane - support of impact. |

How about down the angle of approach? Meaning...supporting the shaft at impact? Good question.... |
