Ballooning issue
I was working on my Hitting motion today in a moderate head wind and found that I really couldn't control trajectory anywhere near as well as when swinging. I was using Ted's pattern and getting excellent compression, but too much spin given the steeper plane angle than I normally use while swinging. How much of this ballooning is it reasonable to attribute to shaft flex issues? I had plenty of sizzle and a nice solid 'crack', but it was an odd flight for as well as impact sounded. High and straight but just died at the apex without much control.
A bit of a toe impact at times, given the steeper angle, which is a factor too. I guess I'll just have to convince the wife I need another set of irons for when I feel like Hitting! ;) |
Shaft flex

Goerge Burns was once asked what intimate relations were like at 90 years old. He said, "it's like playing billiards with a rope." That's what I feel like when using regular shafts; you can't push a rope. I can't keep the ball from ballooning and going dead right. Give me an X shaft and I'll lace it. I hope this is tame enough for this forum... |
