His only recourse was to telephone the author, Homer Kelley. Thus began the student-teacher relationship that was to last until Mr. Kelley's death in February 1983. More calls followed over the next 18 months, with Homer patiently explaining the science and principles behind his great work, and Lynn eagerly absorbing his lessons. The instruction reached its pinnacle in January 1982 when Homer invited Lynn to attend his weeklong Golf Stroke Engineering Master Class. The invitation was extended to a select group of only five -- one each from the North, South, East, West and Midwest. It was to be the last of only three Master classes Mr. Kelley lived to conduct, and Lynn was one of only twelve to graduate from those classes. In the 32 months following his Master Instructor designation -- and while continuing his financial business -- Lynn conducted more than forty golf schools in six states. He personally taught more than 600 students and several thousand more in promotional seminars. He also individually trained 28 PGA professionals in the same system Homer taught him. In October 1984, though his golf business was successful by any definition, he returned full-time to his financial world. Twenty years later, Lynn has returned as an authoritative voice and has been awarded the designation Golf Stroke Engineering Doctor (GSED). Other than the writing of Homer Kelley himself, his body of work since January 10, 2004, is unprecedented in the history of The Golfing Machine®. In April 2004, Lynn conducted his inaugural 'comeback' school for both professionals and amateurs at the PGA TOUR Academy in St. Augustine, Florida. Over the next eighteen months, ten more sold-out schools followed at major resort and private club locations in seven states from coast-to-coast and also in Germany for members of both the German and British PGA. In addition, he has taught numerous Private Academies for an international clientele including a number of the nation's most respected PGA teaching professionals. In January 2006 he was the Lead Instructor teaching 28 PGA professionals at the two-day regional conference of custom clubmaker Henry-Griffitts. In March 2006 he was featured as a main platform speaker for a four-hour presentation to more than 500 professionals of the Swedish PGA. In August 2006 he returned to Germany for an encore presentation, and in December 2006 he was the lead instructor for 15 PGA professionals at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida. Lynn holds 2007 PGA TOUR Player Instructor credentials and has been seen at such venues as the 2005 Buick Open (Flint, Michigan), where he worked for three days with Brian Watts, a thirteen-time winner on the Japanese Tour and runner-up at St. Andrews in the 1998 British Open; the 2006 BellSouth Golf Classic (Atlanta, Georgia) working with Brian Gay, ranked 12th in 2006 PGA TOUR Scoring Average (Actual) and a perennial leader in Putting and Scrambling; and the 2006 Barclays Classic (Rye, New York), where he conducted the Barclays Classic Golf Academy for Barclays private clients during all four days of the tournament. On the Nationwide Tour, he is working with John Riegger and Jay Williamson. He also teaches Meghna Bal, 2007 All India Ladies Amateur Champion, and Sean Elliot, 2006 New Jersey Junior Champion. In August 2007, Lynn Blake Golf, LLC, will conduct the Barclays Classic Golf Academy at the Barclays Classic, Westchester Country Club, NY, the first of the historic Fedex Cup Series playoff events. Simultaneously, the company will conduct for the PGA TOUR the LBG Golf Academy presented by Gillette exclusively for the sponsors of the Barclays Classic at Hospitality Village. Of his recent accomplishments, he is most proud of LynnBlakeGolf.com, a website he feels is destined to revolutionize the world of conventional golf instruction. In association with Michael Clark and Michael Lance -- first students, then friends and now Site Administrators -- he launched the website in January 2005. With extensive archives and a growing Video Gallery, it now boasts more than 3,900 Registered Members who have contributed more than 36,000 posts to its Forums. Lynn is a prolific writer for the site, logging more than 4,800 posts since its founding. TED FORT, PGA, GSEB LBG Senior Instructor Ted Fort, was elected to membership in the PGA of America in June 1996. That same year, he was named the Georgia PGA Assistant Professional of the Year. In 2006, Ted was named Georgia PGA Teacher of the Year. He is a featured Instructor in the series A Lesson Learned on pga.com, the official website of the PGA of America. Underlying his teaching philosophy is the bedrock foundation of Homer Kelley’s landmark work, The Golfing Machine. He earned the designation Golf Stroke Engineering Bachelor (GSEB) in February 2004. Says Ted, “I owe my understanding of The Golfing Machine to Lynn Blake, a personal pupil of Mr. Kelley who has studied the work for more than 25 years. I sought Lynn as a mentor, and he welcomed me as his student. Over time, we have formed a bond of mutual respect that has become extremely strong.” Ted presently teaches Lori West, an 18-year veteran of the LPGA Tour. Her first victory came in 2002 on the Women's Senior Golf Tour shortly after they began working together. Lori followed that performance with a second victory in 2003 and five Top Ten finishes. Ted also teaches Brian Nash, the 2000 National Long Drive Champion. Brian, a Pinnacle Long Drive Team Member, recently established his ‘personal best’ with a launch of 445 yards. On the lesson tee with students of all abilities or on the lecture platform presenting to his peers, Ted Fort serves his fellow man each day. Teaching golf is his life, and his expertise and passion for that calling is evident to all. JEFF HULL, PGA, GSEB LBG Senior Instructor Jeff Hull is an accomplished player, teacher and clubfitter. His teaching is based on a geometrically-correct golf swing; namely, that is circular in motion, with impact being a downward strike through the ball to the lowest point of the swing arc. Cornerstones of his teaching are that the hands should be well ahead of the clubhead prior to impact; that the left wrist must still be flat at a point past impact; and that the player must be able to swing in balance while maintaining the correct upper body tilt. Jeff strongly believes that Equipment Affects Motion®. Length and lie angle alone will dramatically affect a player’s posture and their ability to create the above-mentioned alignments. Club weight and shaft flex are extremely useful in creating the proper pivot and balance. Jeff has had great success creating a balanced motion that is geometrically correct by utilizing the proper club components. A player using improperly-fitted clubs will be forced to make compensations in their swing. All players, regardless of ability, should have their equipment properly fit. Jeff's many professional accomplishments include:
JOHN RIEGGER, PGA TOUR John Riegger, PGA Touring Professional, will be joining our staff at Falcon's Fire. John first qualified for the PGA TOUR via Q-School in 1986 and has since made 52 cuts in 86 events. His record includes two 2nds, three 3rds, twelve Top 10s and 23 Top 25s. Hampered by shoulder and rib injuries sustained in 2003, he played the 2004-2006 seasons on a Major Medical Extension. In 2006, he made five cuts in 20 starts and earned $230,765. He opened his season with the Sony Open in Hawaii where he shot 72-71-68-66=277, finished T-24 and earned $40,363. Later in the year he finished T-5 at the John Deere Classic, earning $152,000 on rounds of 67-69-69-64=269. His 7-under-par final round 64 was the low of the day. John was unable to retain his PGA TOUR Medical extension in 2007, but his career record gives him fully-exempt status on the Nationwide Tour. Injury-free for the first time in four years, he is committed to a heavy playing schedule and a return to the PGA TOUR in 2008. Read more about John at http://www.pgatour.com/players/00/20/02/. BRIAN GAY, PGA TOUR Brian Gay, PGA Touring Professional, will make a special guest appearance at our Academy. This fortuitous event is occuring because he is in Orlando for the week playing the PGA TOUR's Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. Brian has played the TOUR for eight years and enjoys Exempt status for 2007. He began working with Lynn Blake in February 2006 and subsequently moved from 112th in Scoring Average (Actual) in 2005 to 12th in 2006. He made 22 cuts in 31 starts, finished in the top 25 ten times and earned $1,037,000. He also scored the 2006 season's first double eagle, using driver, 5-iron on the par-5, 503-yard first hole at Riviera CC during the Nissan's second round. So, for those of us who couldn't make it and spent the weekend shoveling 4" of global warming debris out of our driveways, how was it??? Any interesting stories??

Being invited to Brian Gay's party for his 10th wedding anniversary was a true highlight of the trip. He has a beautiful family and a beautiful home. Rooming with 12piece... words cannot explain. My wife calls him 11piece, as he's one chicken leg shy of a full bucket. He's a role model for anyone that has spent time behind bars. :laughing9 |
You could get 10 years at Leavenworth...
Not to mention for anyone who has spent time in bars... :occasion: :eyes:

Great Clinic
One of the happenings that was so impressive about the instructors
was the way that they could hit the ball. Very few instructors that I know are able to perform what they preach. Lynn, Ted and Jeff would boom 300 drives, stripe irons and do all the specialty shots with ease. They could tell you what to do and then hit the shot to show you what it should look like and what to expect. These where three of the very best instructor all in one place. Hands on instruction was there. I figure that I hit about 1700 balls in three days. Some of the highlights for me: Chipping and Pitching - The proper set up and dragging the wet mop. The specialty shot that Ted uses, with the grip in the left hand palm and the vertical hinging. Lynn showed a preset pivot drill that was very impressive. Jeff showed how to go to both arms straight with authority. Very impressive. Putting - Lynn, Ted and Jeff showed their perferred styles and explained the feelings and objectives. Lynn has a very interesting observation about the right shoulder being down enough at address to accomodate the length of the putt. Another very interesting point was how the pivot point would change from the left shoulder to hands if the left wrist was bent at address. On the tee - Lynn covered a lot of topics, such as flying wedges and address, hinge arrangements to work the ball, the wrist throw, the finish swivel and many more. Ted covered "hitting" with dowel alignments and gave excellent examples of closing and layback. Ted also has an excellent knowledge of "Swinging" and gave me some very good instruction. Jeff showed me what he actually did in the gallary section of the forum. His knowledge of club fitting is the very best. Jeff brought the Henry Griffith club cart so that students could try different combinations of clubheads with shafts. There was no appearance of trying to sell clubs, but a genuline effert to help. Jeff is an excellent instrutor and boy can he hit the ball. Listening to Lynn, Ted and Jeff, discuss among themselves the theories and the various pressure point applications was somthing to behold. These guys are not good, they are better than that! I sure got a lot out of the clinic and would strongly recommend that the experience would be great for you. Donn Kerby |
Donn Kerby and the Second Groove
Quote:
Personally, I will never forget looking at the face of your 8-iron and seeing a depression the size of a quarter right in the sweetspot. I then looked at the 7 and 6-irons. I kid you not, folks, the depression was very obvious and very there, just above the second groove. Just where Hogan said it should be. You told me you hit 300 balls a day, 7 days a week. I believe it... Holes in Clubfaces don't lie. :salut: |
Quote:
We gave Donn a hard time about them holes . . . but those holes are about pure devotion to the most beautiful game. Be proud Donn!!! I know Mr. Hogan is your man . . . you are "digging the same dirt." It was great meeting you! You are good people. |
Colonel
I have just elevated you to General in my mind. I know that
your are a Major General on the forum and such a nice guy to meet in person. You are on my hero list. Donn |
A few thoughts from a High Level . . .
I have had time to incubate this school thing a bit. I am not prepared to get into the details of instruction and theory yet. However, there are a few points that I would like to make and hopefully for people to understand.
First and foremost, Lynn Blake is stock of the highest quality. Lynn could not be a more generous and thoughtful man. He is well spoken. Well read. And his ability to communicate is second to none. I had the opportunity to walk with him and 8cork at The A.P. Invitational and follow Brian Gay. Brian hit shots with amazing precision. Brian was doing Start Down Waggles throughout the round as a part of the preshot routine Lynn taught him (Address Routine). He missed a bucket full of putts inside 10 feet. After the round Lynn helped him on the range, perfecting the start down with the slide hip turn. 8cork told he that he missed a camera shot that would have been great . . . Lynn and Brian right beside David Leadbetter and Ernie Els. Without question . . . Lynn Blake BELONGS on the most hallowed practice grounds in the world. During Lynn's 4 hour lecture on the principles, geometry and physics of the Machine without notes, I couldn't help thinking several times two things: 1. This man is amazing. 2. Leadbetter, Haney, Butchie, etc. etc. COULD NOT give a lecture of this quality with months to prepare . . . Lynn basically did it impromptu. His knowledge of the Machine is unparalleled. The passion and love he has for the Machine cannot be contained. Another observation is . . . . Lynn has surrounded himself with two of the most quality guys you could ever meet. Ted Fort and Jeff Hull are in an elite class with regards to instruction, communication, knowledge but most of all genuinely great human beings. Lynn, Ted and Jeff can flat out strike a golf ball pure as the driven snow. I took some footage of all three . . . It don't get no better'n'nat. I think that we all must begin to realize a few things. First, we are truly blessed to have access to the information that Lynn gives us . . . and for FREE on the internet to boot. There ain't many people left that actually spent time with HOMER KELLEY. I have spoke to 4 . . . all were great and are great . . . but Lynn is without question in my mind THE BEST. Those that spent time with Homer ain't no spring chickens either. So NOW is the time for someone to bear the torch before time is up. Homer Kelley said that he wanted to have 100 instructors at HIS LEVEL of understanding and knowledge of the golf stroke. I have to think unfortunately that we are A LONG WAY from the goal line on that. The contention among those with the Machine and outside of the Machine is well documented. I believe that the GOSPEL is here at LBG and a few other very select places. Eddie Cox, Mike O-that's right, David Orr, Drew (drewitgolf) Silver Surfer Chapman, Ted Fort, and Jeff Hull... I can't thank y'all enough for what you have done for my understanding and my game. I will continue to broaden my Yellow Horizons here and with those guys because I believe the information given here to be of the "virgin" pressing . . . the best and most purest form. The stage has been set for LBG. Things around here are going to mushroom. We can all say we were here when it all started happening . . . from that fateful day in 2004 when Lynn was sick and found the old TGM website...to 4000 members today...to PGA TOUR proven success. The principles of the Golfing Machine and the Legacy of Homer Kelley has been and will continue to be well served by one Lynn Blake and the amazing instructors he has surrounded himself with. We have all been blessed. Thanks to LBG and thanks to Mr. Kelley. |

YOU hit the NAIL, bucketboy! The first workshop I attended, I had to catch myself from calling Lynn, "Homer" a few times. My subconscience was telling me something. Yoda is spreading Homer Kelley in a way the front office can't or won't. It is nice being two degrees from Homer Kelley. Big Cheers for the Pro Contributors on this site. Agree with every word.It was my third time spending a couple of days with Yoda and the second time Ted and Jeff were in attendance,it was the usual wonderful experience. My ballstriking has been transformed since-with the irons anyway, but driver is getting better.
My only regret was traveling from home each day and not getting a hotel room -I know I missed some serious fun!-:occasion: |

Actually Bucket, I was awake but now the Hall monitors are out - need to go to sleep:sleepy: They were not happy tonight- 6BMike started a food fight in the cafeteria, then Delaware Dave threw a fork across the room, someone in the back yelled "throwaway" and all hell broke loose! They even have Yoda locked down tonight! Of course it took three monitors and the kitchen cook to hold him down. Going to get a little shut eye.
