Bad News / Good News

Bad new first. We've had a very unusual problem with our database; all post and private message data since December 15 was corrupted, and unfortunately this corrupt data found its way into our nightly backups. As you'll be able to tell we didn't lose all the forum data; users registered during that time are fine, the gallery is OK, as are most other portions of the site. I'm doing what I can to recover the missing data, but at this point it isn't looking good. We're especially sorry that we lost some of the great material posted this past month by Jeff Hull and Vickie, two of our resident experts.

The good news is that we're taking advantage of this down time to make some upgrades to our site. This weekend we're going to keep the forum in read-only mode; you'll be able to browse forums, watch videos, etc..., but you won't be able to post. On Monday we plan to turn on a new, upgraded version of the forum software and gallery. This is going to allow us to do and offer more for our great membership in 2007. We've also got some great videos in our pipeline that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Thanks for your patience, and be sure to visit regularly over the coming weeks!

If you've sent a private message to Yoda regarding lessons and have not yet heard back, please send him another note to make sure you can connect and setup a visit to the swamp.

Back UP! Good news - Bad News

Glad to see you're back up! That's the good news. Bad News- 12 Piece couldn't hang on long enough without a fix- passed away over the weekend!

Nahhh...that's just the withdrawal symptoms. Pass a chicken wing under his nose and he'll roust out of the stupor.

We're still hammering out the finer details in the gallery section. It will change to a flash version in the coming week.

We've worked out most of our database issues and think we found a bug in the widely deployed MySQL code that millions of commercial servers use. We know how to work around it, we've tested it and have multiple backup routines in place to avoid having it ever happening again. The bad news is that we lost some great golf posts over the Christmas/New Years period. So while those memories are still fresh, let's get it kicking again.

If anyone makes copies of posts, feel free to put them back up under the thread titles. Databases are strange beasts and all of the conversation threads are still intact.

Thanks Bambam for sacrificing the weekend to get things rolling again. He took advantage of the downtime and put some new clothing on the site along with an upgraded gallery section to handle the upcoming flash upgrade, and a little Brian Gay preview video.

(Not an easy thing to do during the Chrysler Classic and NFL playoffs)

LBG is open for business!

My thanks to both Bagger and Bambam for their tireless and selfless efforts to make LBG work for all. :salut:

This past week's conversion was necessary to continue the expansion of products and services we offer our members, and the loss of a few weeks' posts, while clearly unintentional and disheartening, is a small price to pay for the benefits that lie ahead.

We weren't quite ready to roll out our enhanced site, but we decided to use the downtime caused by our data loss problem to accelerate the process. This is in no way a finished product. Hang with us the next couple of weeks as we put new color schemes in place and, in general, tidy up the joint. We will reward your patience!

We welcome all comments and suggestions in the Forum and Web Site Suggestions forum (under The Club Office).

A bit of good news

We were able to extract some of the data from the corrupted private messages table, but only up through around Jan. 11. We'll try to do the same thing with the posts, but that table appears to have sustained more damage than the PM table.

This is the ghost of Bucket's Past . . . I have been haunting Mike O for several days now . . . Mike did your toothpaste smell remotely like Preparation H???

Did y'all know that Mikey shaves his ENTIRE body?

Oh and by the way . . . what the heck is up with the small font? I'm on the quarterly plan . . . my buddies keep telling me I'm gonna go blind. Is this phase one? Can we get a LARGE PRINT VERSION???

Holla! Back to making funny noises in Mikey's closet . . . not sure what all the rubber pants are about . . . whatever.

bambam 01-22-2007 10:22 PM

I've had a couple reports of small font, but apparently that's not happening for everyone. Check your browser's font size setting to make sure it didn't slip down to small or smaller. I'll check out things on our end, also

12 piece,
In the new forum BamBam has created a entirely 21st century system- automatically correlates font size to body part size- sorry you can't read it- but there is Nothing that we can do!

Its coming up in "normal" font, size 10pt., for me. However, I do have to scroll across the page to get at all the text due to the wide left hand margin.

Can that margin be made a little smaller please?

alex_chung 01-23-2007 06:42 PM

I am getting the same thing as Burner. Also the top banner where it says 'LynnBlakeGolf Forums > The Club Office > ........' is also floating off the top of the screen onto the 1st post of the page.
Thanks,
Alex

Huge Font Problem

Ben,

It appears to be the text in the middle of the page. To the left side, under LynnBlakeGolf, the text appears to be normal or one font size on the small side. On the Left side under "User CP" "Private Messages" and "Online Users" some of the text is black or really dark green which makes it impossible to read. If you send me your regular email address, I could send you some screen shots of what it looks like on this end.

I saw that earlier today too. The text is now white in the User CP section and much easier to read.

alojoo 01-23-2007 11:38 PM

The text on NEW POSTS appears tiny, cannot be read. This happens when I navigate the site with IE. Changing the browser to FIREFOX displays the text normally, with a text size appropiate possible to be read.

Maybe the problem comes from a buggy update of microsoft internet explorer version 6, this also happens when viewing google. Firefox displays correctly the site. I also want to say that private messaging was not enabled yesterday, but by now it is working.

Also some of the private messages stored have returned back to the inbox, unfortunately not all. Good job retrieving corrupted past mails ! Some important ones were recovered !

On the other side, congratulations to the responsable people of the site, the internet site looks awesome.

bambam 01-23-2007 11:47 PM

I've been sending and receiving PM's with no problem, alojoo. Are you getting an error message? I just sent you a test message, let me know if you get it.

Try clearing our cache in IE. I adjusted the font sizes late last night.

hg 01-24-2007 12:58 AM

The font is smaller this evening than it was earlier...it's not too small but it is smaller than the adjoining areas where there is news/advertising...only attempting to be constructive but the look is very busy with so much remaining on the margins when reading posts within the threads. But I am not a big fan either of all the sidebar items that are shown on tv screens during sports and the news. It takes the focus away from the primary event. (So maybe the producer isn't that thrilled either with the primary event and is hoping that the sidebars will keep the viewer's attention.)

The Gallery

You may have already noticed....in the Gallery in the Pictures section...the pictures/frames of the Basic and Acquired Sequences are not in sequential order.

bambam 01-24-2007 12:09 PM

Thanks for the feedback HG. I'll be checking out all of these items.

It has been three weeks since this post (I have been anxiously awaiting and counting). I am trying to be patient, but it is difficult. We got a little hint of what might be available on the "enhanced site" with the Brian Gay video. OK..OK.. enough already, my appetite is whetted. Could you give us a little more information, pleeeeeeease!!!
New videos?
Yoda DVD?
Equipment (Pro Shop)?
Other exciting things?

I am trying to be patient, but not very successfully. When can we expect to see the "enhanced site"?

Thanks for all you do!
Kit
