Slow Site

Our internet service provider is experiencing some network latency issues and are working on finding and fixing the problem. If you don't know what network latency is, picture Charles Barkley's downswing....that hitch in the middle = latency :)

Here's the note from our provider:

"We apologize for the inconvenience. There seems to be a slowdown in our network which is causing some latency issues. You may see some intermitent issues while we continue to isolate the problem."

Daryl 05-15-2006 02:26 PM

I'm getting this "urgency" feeling. If you don't speed this up soon, I'll need medication.

tongzilla 05-15-2006 04:03 PM

It's about 5 on the stimpmeter at the moment. We need to get it back up to 11 at least. Lets get mowing!

ram418 05-15-2006 06:18 PM

I am experiencing latency. I thought it was just me.

When I need a fix, I go the the saved pdf's of Yoda's archieves!

metallion 05-15-2006 07:41 PM

Never again tell the ISP to 'sustain the lag'.

bambam 05-15-2006 09:34 PM

I'm still working with our provider to nail down the latency problems but while I was looking into potential problems I came across some interesting LBG.com stats you might be interested in:

LBG.com has been steadily growing over the past months and we're now averaging 80,000 hits, and 2,600 visits per day. The server also keeps track of how much data has been delivered to users (bandwidth), and it looks like we're headed towards another record-setting month. We've already delivered a whopping 700 Gigabytes of data to you all so far in May!

The most popular videos are Yoda's hinge action series and the dowels video.

Whoa, 700 Gigabytes of data transfer the first two weeks in May!

Didn't we just up our bandwidth to 1,500 Gigs? Here we are only halfway through the month...and it looks like we're ready to blow through that ceiling. :eyes:

But I know the drill...

And it will happen!

:thumright

Ben,
I don't want to poop on the party- but isn't it true that of the 2,600 visits per day- Bucket has over two thousand visits per day?:blackeye: And he threatened not to visit unless you gave him his own section? By the way him and I are going to open our own website just to pound each other and not get in the way of all this good Golfing Machine info.:boxing:

Mike O,

Please do not mention 'visits' to Bucket. He is very sensitive -- and understandably so -- to the word. Or anything close to it, such as...

Office Visits.

Visitation.

Visiting Hours.

Get my drift?

:-$

To get all those archived posts organized as quickly as he did, it wouldn't suprise me!!

birdie_man 05-16-2006 12:22 PM

What are "hits" exactly?

"80,000 hits."

bambam 05-16-2006 12:33 PM

"Hits" is a popular stat that's captured by most webservers. It represents the number of http requests sent to the server - this includes requests for images, scripts, posts, etc.. basically all the activity on the site.

Does that mean we have to "visit" him soon?

BAM,BAM,I logged on twenty minutes ago,it took me so long to open a thread I logged off.Took me 19 minutes to get back on to the site.Just for your info.Keep up the good work:hello2:

Daryl 05-16-2006 11:19 PM

This site has been intentionally slowed to give people who can't type as fast a chance to get caught up. Also for those who don't think as fast.

Much better. I would still like to see a little more snap with the back button on the mouse.

bambam 05-17-2006 07:05 AM

It may have just been for you guys up at all hours :) We'll keep an eye on it today.

bambam 05-19-2006 10:48 PM

Still not up to snuff...

EdZ 05-20-2006 01:38 PM

bambam - looks more like a net issue to me. Tracert shows a decent delay on the west coast side of the traffic, although for me I see some lag dc-atlanta-ca as well. If it helps I can PM you my results, let me know.

ram418 05-20-2006 03:16 PM

Not Slow - Deliberate

I heard the The Golf Channel that Ben Crane says this is his favorite site.

Daryl 05-20-2006 06:13 PM

BamBam,

It's better now. 5:17 pm.

bambam 05-20-2006 07:12 PM

It's coming and going; it depends on when and from where you're hitting the site. We will get this thing licked.

Daryl 05-22-2006 08:02 AM

Slow again. Not as bad as a few days ago, but it comes and goes.

bambam 05-22-2006 09:00 AM

Guys, these messages are very helpful. One thing you could do to help us when things get slow for you would be to provide what Edz has mentioned above -- a traceroute. To do this, open a command prompt in windows (start->run->"cmd"->OK) and type "tracert www.lynnblakegolf.com" copy the output of that command and paste it into a PM to me.

Thanks

Maybe it is very random and location dependent...it seems to have improved recently to CA...hate to see people not coming to such a great site...it does look like posting has dropped off though.

An important observation regarding the current "net neutrality" debate in Congress.

If you are not aware of the issue, it is worthy of investigation in light of how much of our lives are filtered through the net currently and in the future (phone/television/news).

Just ask the NSA.

ldeit 05-31-2006 12:20 AM

site is still very slow.

starretj 05-31-2006 10:57 AM

Not only slow, but now I get an error message when I use the "Page Back" arrow more than once. The error message is something about it couldn't load the database.

Jim S.

bambam 05-31-2006 11:09 AM

Sorry, Jim. You caught me while restarting the database.

still workin' on the speed...

starretj 05-31-2006 11:12 AM

No problem, I am just trying to keep you aware of what problems I have encountered so that you have as much information as possible. I had this problem last night also, not just this morning.

Jim S.

bambam 05-31-2006 12:00 PM

Thanks, we really do appreciate the feedback and notices.
