Cannot access videos

My computer won't play the videos in the Gallery. Have not had this problem in the past. I remain logged in (the "remember me" function is active). I have Firefox for a browser, but have not updated it.

Any suggestions? I tried to save one to a file and it didn't work.

I'm not sure how well Microsoft media files and Firefox get along, so that would be my first guess. Have you tried downloading them and then trying to view them?

bambam 05-01-2006 05:41 PM

Which video(s) specifically? I'm using firefix now and I just watched ted hit his wedge.

efnef 05-01-2006 07:24 PM

Tried several old and new ones.

I have been using Firefox for about two years with no problem in the past at this site. I also have windows media and quicktime installed and use them without problems. I don't know what to say.
I also tried to download without success.

I'm with ef

I can't play them either. Tried watching a Ben Doyle video and got a screen full of code or some other gobbledygook. Never had a problem before. Also use firefox.
On the bright side, everything is loading faster.

stilltrying 05-01-2006 07:39 PM

firefox?

May be a firefox issue, I can play them through IE.

The "gobbledygook" :) is what the movie looks like when you open it in a program like notepad (or in this case firefix) that doesn't know how to display it properly. Seems like we had this problem once before...I'll see what I can find.

bambam 05-01-2006 08:18 PM

does this one work for you firefox folks?

stilltrying 05-01-2006 08:21 PM

Yes, that one works.

bambam 05-01-2006 08:24 PM

I think I found the problem. It appears it was a server setting. Please try the other videos again. Thanks for reporting this.

stilltrying 05-01-2006 08:28 PM

woohoo!!

Works for me. Once again, thanks for your efforts.

Do we have a great team here or what? Thanks, Bambam!

No way this place would be happening without these guys.

Alphabetically...

Bagger.

Bambam.

And Trig.

They're the best!

Better

They're working now, except that I have to fill out my identity and password each time I view a video even though I have the remember box checked and I keep myself logged in when I leave this site. But hey, I can view the vids now, so I got that goin' for me, anyway. :D

bambam 05-01-2006 09:51 PM

The checkbox you're checking, is that in firefox? Here's the rub on files played in Windows Media Player. It shares its browser cookie ("remember me") information with Internet Explorer, so while firefox remembers you, windows media player / IE doesn't. If you want media player to remember you try logging into IE and check the remember me box. From that point on, firefox should work fine.

If you go to http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/login.php after you have the remember box checked, you won't get prompted to login.

If you go to http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/ you will prompted even if the Remember Login box is checked.

Well Ed, I tried both of your links and still was asked to log in when I tried the same video.

bambam 05-02-2006 07:02 AM

Did you login via IE or Firefox? If firefox, see my post prior to Ed's. Firefox and Windows Media Player don't share the same authentication sub-systems, so clicking the "remember me" box in firefox will have no affect on Media Player.

Firefox, always. I do not use IE, and haven't for almost 2 years. I guess I'm confused because I have been viewing the videos from day one, and this is the first time this has ever happened.

I am not very computer savvy, though.

bambam 05-03-2006 09:03 AM

I'll do more testing. Are any other firefox users seeing this same behavior?

Ripper 05-05-2006 08:41 PM

Im using IE and Windows media player, and can't get any videos to work. Just get error message saying Windows can't open file.

bambam 05-05-2006 08:53 PM

Ripper,

See this post: http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/s...d.php?t=2432#7

Let me know if you can/cannot save the videos to your computer and play them.
