Posterchild for Swinging?

Ok, in the Hitters Forum we have Stuart Appleby as the posterchild for Hitting. Who is the posterchild for Swinging? Do we have pics?
Ta muchly,

A fine list of those with wonderful 'swingers' Rhythm and Rotation.

Toms at times does not have the 'smooth' flow of Annika, Stewart or Jones, but he has at times, and has played some of his best golf then.

Knudson had that flow as well. Purtzer too.

And the list of model swingers is never complete without mention of Hogan.

Considering so many elements were taken by Homer from...

Hogan....

Wouldnt he be the poster child?

Just curious.

How about big John Daly? I think his style of play tends to cause people to overlook the fact that he's probably as pure a swinger as there is. If you've ever seen his swing in slow mo, it dosen't look like his right hand is doing much of anything. Heck, it looks like it's barely on the club!

Ever see him hit clubs left handed only?

It's a WONDERFUL drill to learn a swinging motion. I tell more advanced players to do it. If you can swing a wedge with your left arm only and produce a small draw. You know how to "swing" with a horizontal hinge.

Then just "slowly" put your right hand back on the club.

cometgolfer 01-06-2006 10:22 PM

The Goose

How about Retief Goosen? I have a man-crush on that guy's motion. :) One of the more under-rated swingers in my mind.

I remember a few years ago my Pro giving me this drill to work on the rotation of my left arm through impact (since he is non TGM, it was his way of getting to HH better) I must of hit a ton of wedges that way, the best I got was a straight shot, guess it might be time to go back to it and get that soft draw.

Where do you put the number player in the world?

I assume you mean Tiger, and meant number 1 player...

Tiger's Rhythm is off. He needs smooooother and heavier motion.

He has a few alignments that make his move harder than it needs to be.

Amen Ed! Every year when TGC has "Tiger week" on I look at his old swing and think, :???: Why would you mess with THAT!!!!!!

He must really be a huge Homer fan and wants to win equal numbers of majors hitting AND swinging - just for the challenge!

"A Slammer Dunk"

Good call strav! Mr. Kelley often referenced Snead 1946 book "How to Play Golf"...not for what Snead said, but what he did. Snead's record speaks for itself and his Swing was a thing of beauty.

tongzilla 01-09-2006 10:21 AM

Classic Snead

Beautiful example of Standard Knee Action (10-16-A) and Standard Foot Action (10-17-A) done properlly -- with a Stationary Head (1-L-1/2).

For a Textbook Golfing Machine Swinging Pattern, look no futher than Yoda. For a Classic Swinging Pattern however...this is one great motion

Trig 01-09-2006 10:25 AM

How about...

How about VJ? He sure looks like a swinger to me. And a guy with beautiful rythm.

Yes I agree...nice tempo.

But for the most classiest of the classiest swings of all, that title has to go to Bobby Jones.

birdie_man 01-09-2006 12:21 PM

Ya Bobby Jones is a guy who you'd use to explain to someone the Physics of Swinging: so smooth, it has to be Centrifugal Force!

Considering that many traits of a Swinger were modeled after Hogan....

I stand by my choice (and Homers).

:)

Do you consider Hogan's grip to be 10-2-B?

EdZ 01-10-2006 03:37 PM

Annikan - do you have any sequences of Toski? or MacDonald Smith?

Thanks for the Snead sequence!

Hi Ed...

No, I do not. I see 10-2-D - but, it's just my take..........

Patrick

annikan skywalker 01-11-2006 11:38 AM

Definitely....10-2-D during the "Power Golf Era"...but what do you see here?

EdZ 01-11-2006 11:45 AM

He was 10-2-D before the changes, 10-2-A After.

What does it look like at impact fix?

To truely decipher, or analyze, we need....

As Todd said...

IMPACT FIX!

strav 01-21-2006 11:29 AM

There are some big claims made for this swing. What do you guys think?

Rhythm 01-22-2006 08:34 PM

Poster Child

Chad Campbell. One of my favorite swings on the tour.
Lets get his sequence up.

I think if you can do this model, you would be doing quite nicely. There are a few very minor items if one were being picky, but nothing significant IMO.

Like nearly all patterns, the grip defines quite a lot of the motion.

The book "How to Feel a Real Golf Swing" - Toski/Love, does a very good job of teaching this pattern IMO. Personally, I found the book associated with the model not as good.

tongzilla 01-23-2006 07:07 PM

Looks like Hogan is holding something wooden like a twig or something.
