Brian Gay Putts His Way To A Runner Up Finish At The HP Byron Nelson Championship
Tinley Park, IL, May 24, 2010 - Brian Gay, posting a low score of the day 63 with only 23 putts, vaulted himself to a runner up finish at the HP Byron Nelson Championship Sunday.
Playing with a Bettinardi BB8 putter, the same putter that has been in his bag for his last three victories since 2008, Gay carded a 72-68-69-63 - 272 tying Blake Adams and Jeff Overton for the second place spot.
"My putting was absolutely the key to Sunday's round," said Gay. "I feel like I am starting to get that same feeling like I had last year with my two victories."
Gay finished the 2009 season ranked #4 in 2009 PGA Tour Putts Per Round with an average of 28.11 and recently posted his best position on the year-end 2009 money list (13th). Finishing among the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings, has earned him entry to all four majors in 2010 - the Masters, The U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship based on his 2009 performance.
"My putting was absolutely the key to Sunday's round," said Gay. "I feel like I am starting to get that same feeling like I had last year with my two victories."
Colonial, as did Harbour Town, has long awaited a masterful Brian Gay performance. If he's peaking, it could happen.
