I came across this drill, reading The Secret of Golf. I thought it was a pretty good way to establish the correct head postion (stationary/centered between the feet)

Lessons with Mr. X

The deepest part of the divot (low point) with a 7 iron is 3 ½ inches in front of the ball. If you measure from the left eye to a point opposite your left shoulder socket, the distance is approximately 5 inches for a man and 4 inches for a woman. The tip of the nose is about 1 inch farther away from the shoulder socket.

When you are standing upright, a line through the center of your face, shoulders, hips, and feet will be about 6 inches to the right of a line through what is to be the low point of the swing. For ALL shots the line through the center of your head is going to be 6 inches behind the lowest point on all full shots.

Drill

Place the club head with the face 6 inches to the right of the front of the ball (i.e. about 4 ½ inches to the right of the back of the ball.

With the club head in this position and the shaft exactly squared to the intended line of flight, bring your feet exactly beneath the shaft line, making sure that the shaft line follows a line through the center of the hips and shoulders.

When you are standing in this position, the ball will be opposite your left shoulder socket. Use a mirror to check this

Now move you left foot to the left, parallel to the line through ball an target , so the ball is opposite the left heel.

Next move move the right foot exactly the same distance to the right. IMPORTANT! The feet MUST be evenly spaced on both sides of the shaft line.

Final stage to this line up drill is to move the hips, hands and club leftward until the head is grounded behind the ball. This movement is made by an all in one piece lateral slide of the right knee, hips and hands, accompanied by a slight tilting of the shoulders.

When all of this has been done, your hands should be directly on the line from you eyes to your left toe cap

The same procedure with a 7 iron takes into account that the low point is 3 ½ inches in front of the ball . This means that the back of the ball, at address, will be about 6 inches to the right of the lowest point of the swing.

Accordingly, you will start with the clubhead 1 inch behind the ball. You will not widen your stance . Move you hands forward without moving the clubhead (hands will blot out left ankle)

For clubs between the driver and the 7-iron you will make the appropriate adjustments of the relationships of the ball to low point. With a 2/3 iron – the divot is going to be shorter and shallower, so the back of the ball will be 3-4 inches to the right of the low point

In the correct address position the line from the left eye to ball should pass behind the hands, not through them
