I watched some action of Mac and Seve and I have always been confused with something.
They both have great right arm extension from the top and when they return the club to parallel on the DS (p3) shoulders are almost square to the target line. With the left arm that far off the chest (PP4) to get the club that low, how to do they get the club to move that fast through the ball?
I would assume that the hips/legs are going to be in overdrive trying to reconnect the chest to the left arm (PP4) and that keeps the hands moving..
Kinetic chain describes the transfer of energy from hips to torso, torso to arms, arms to hands. If the hips are early to go, Mac and Seve must delay this action immensely to start the kinetic chain at p3.
I notice some players have their hips wide open nearly facing the target impact - Hogan, Woods. Where VJ Singh and the pics of Dianne in the book are not nearly as open. Can anyone explain why???

Watch how far forward those guys go with their hips . . . . I part of them going that far forward is the hips rotating and moving up . . . Axis Tilt . . .

Hey Slice
Great question. Id love to learn more about this. I'm wondering:
-couldnt axis tilt, a slight shift of the hips to the left in transition (as opposed to mid downswing hip rotation), qualify as the initiation of the downswing via the pivot? From foot to knee to hip to shoulder. Ground up? "Taking up the slack" in the left arm, so to speak, with lag loading.
-in a downswing when the left arm slides down the chest but maintains contact , would'nt the #4 still be considered fully loaded? Its angle being unchanged from Top.
-at release the power accumulators fire (in sequence or otherwise) powering the swing.
I may have things all mixed up again. Some golfers, Hogan for instance show "two cheeks" at impact whereas others, Greg Norman etc, don't. Is it just a matter of when and how one lets the arms overtake the pivot? I used to get kind of violent with the hips turning through impact but Ive slowed it down some. I used to think that the hips had to pull all the way to finish. My left foot was spinny, my left side anything but firm.
Yoda chosen impact fix alignment has the hips and shoulders relatively squared away. I guess this means he is that way at impact as well and by design.
