Fitted Lies?
Are the lies of your club properly fitted? Toe up (too upright) tends to cause strike towards the heel. Always blame the equipment....first!

After you have checked your equipment if it still aint working...........take a look at your motion.

There can be a ton of reasons for hitting it off the heel. I wonder what Golfgnome would determine to the be the number one or most common reason...........

Im going to guess the "out to in" crossline Clubhead Path through impact. If this sounds familiar hit the Search function above for "roundhousing" and the cure "startdown waggles".

If that doesnt work call Yoda, Luke or Jeff for a lesson that will change your golfing life. Maybe do this anyways. I did and do and hope to again soon.

I would bet is an over the top move from my own experience. Save yourself alot of grief and make sure you have a stationary head. I think this is way overlooked and under appreciated. I have found that if you pivot around a stationary head you can eliminate bobbing and it is extremely difficult to come OTT.

The cure could be as simple as moving the ball a little further forward in the stance.

You've been heeled !
The following drill has helped many cure the heels and shanks:

This will give you immediate feel of getting the right shoulder down on plane. If you have not been doing this then it will feel quite different.

This single drill got me to focus on my right shoulder and I can now feel immediately when I am not down on plane with my right shoulder. I took film after this drill and the difference is quite startling."

Now try to "over-cook" the feeling by trying to hit the ball on the toe of the driver , which as kmmcnabb points out you can't, but you get the picture. Repeat, over and over and over...

This is another fabulous post one would only find in this forum. Thanks so much. I tried it and it is most helpful.
Now if I could just remember it after the dang snow melts. More coming in a couple days.

+1 - Great post, drewitgolf. From Chuck Evans I learned this tip (I'll try to explain it the best I can):

- At the top of your swing, take a short dowel (or a club) and hold it 'shotgun style' against the right shoulder. The dowel will point back behind you, to the right.
- On the downswing trace the target line with the dowel (and right shoulder) through impact.

Chuck has a video of this drill and explains it a lot better than I did... but it's a great drill.

The Shoulder of Giants
One by-product of the drill I posted is that students that had trouble keeping their Hips back during the downswing automatically were able to keep them from moving toward the ball and were able for the first time to maintain their Waist Bend from Start Down to Follow Through. Also, if you have trouble with "running out of Right Arm", this will help as well as allows you to comply with 1-L-15.
