Overlapping grip
I noticed in TGM that the grip used in most of the patterns is the overlap. Is there any particular reason for this, as opposed to the interlock?

Better ability to maintain the flying wedges IMO. The interlock allows more motion, more 'wobble potential' - but can be useful for float loading if properly understood.
