Last time I actually hit a ball was november. Been close to 6 months. Only thing I have been doing is to read posts, taking occasional swings at the impact back, watchiung A few tournaments on TV and studying my alignments now and then. And incubating. Incubating and trying to program my wrist alignments while on the subway, on flights and doing ordinary things. Just thinking of it. Teaching the hands.
Today it was off to the range with my trusty 8 iron and the 5 iron. Tennis shoes. Same range I always go to. Beautiful spring weather. Got six buckets of balls.
I had promised myself to start slow this year. Not hit a full shot until I felt good about the pitches.
So. There I was. Over the first ball after 5-6 months. With the follwing checklist in my mind.
No flipping. The hands do nothing. Mind in hands.
Wet mop feeling through impact
Flat left wrist at finish
Right shoulder down and on plane
Horizontal hinge
Extensor action
I had ZERO expectation. But knew what I was after. Expected to blow the full 6 buckets only on pitches.
I hit three pitches and could not believe it. It was there. Nothing like last years swing. I did not even recognize it. But it was there. All the bullets were in place.
VERY enthusiastic I started to hit full swings. WOW.
There is a green out there that I have managed to fly only once before with my 8. I flew it on my 3 attempt. And on the 10th. And on probably 25% of my shots.
Picked up the 5 iron. There's a blue flag out there that I've never been able to reach with the 5. My first shot carried to 3-4 feet left of the stick. I could not frickin' believe it.
I shot the full 6 buckets. Normally 3-4 buckets is enough before my back starts to hurt. I have not done anything fitness related at all during the entire winter, but as it is now 3-4 hours later I feel like I haven't hit a single shot.
This is the first day of six months of golf to come
Let there be green grass.
